On Your Side After a Car Accident
If you are injured in a car accident, seek medical help immediately. Then, contact an experienced personal injury lawyer to make sure your interests are protected. Why? Because you need an attorney to look out for you after an accident. The insurance companies protect their own interests. Who is looking out for you?
At Hulen & Leutwyler, LLC, we represent accident victims and their families. We are on your side. Our attorneys have more than 50 years of combined experience. Please call our Denver office at 303-731-6254. Your consultation is free.
Important Car Accident Information
At the scene of the accident, listen to what the other driver says. You should cooperate with police, but do not give a statement to the other driver. Take photos of the scene if it is safe to do so.
Newer cars have data recorders, similar to the "black box" in an airplane. The recorders can provide valuable information about speed, braking, air bags, seat belts and more. If someone removes a recorder, such as the police or an insurance company, you need to make sure we have access to it.
In Colorado, you have three years after a car accident to file a lawsuit. However, if the accident was with a state-owned vehicle, such as a school bus or water district vehicle, you have only 180 days to file a notice about the accident. If you do so, then you have three years to file a lawsuit.
Car Accident Insurance Claims
Speak with an attorney before you sign anything from an insurance company. Most likely, the insurer will offer you less than you need. We will fight for the compensation you are entitled to.
Car accidents often cause serious injuries to the head and spine. These injuries require long-term and very expensive medical care. That is why it is a good idea to have Medical Payments (Med Pay) coverage in your auto insurance policy. Your health insurance may also cover what Med Pay does not.
